SO, WHERE DID IT

ALL BEGIN?

Two teenage friends all grown up, we became disillusioned with the corporate hierarchy of our day jobs and for years we chatted about starting our own brand. However, we were fervently adamant that it needed to be more than a brand. If we were going to build a brand, it needed to be a movement as well. This included a desire to always ensure that we were giving back to organisations that were on society's front line, helping people and striving for equality.

Broken Mentality was birthed as we began to search for our own place in society. As life continued, we felt our individuality and authenticity growing in importance. We recognised that we did not want to become shells of ourselves and were becoming increasingly aware of society's desire to fit people into a specific box. We have suffered with our own mental difficulties and challenges, yet many of these originated due to the expectations and ideals of society. Whether it was toxic masculinity, judgements made on appearance, not conforming to the plights of our peers, or rebelling against our environment, we recognised that our mentality was not broken... Society had the broken mentality.

As we continued to be open with each other, we began to become concerned by the amount of other people who are met with society's broken mentality every day. We wanted to create a brand and aesthetic that encouraged and empowered people to be themselves and willingly not 'fit in'. When we say we are "the antidote to conformity", we are effectively saying "it's okay to be yourself".

So, Broken Mentality was launched, as was our desire to become more than a brand. We want to be a movement, we want to be a revolution, we want to be a community. (And don't worry, the irony of telling people it is okay not to fit in, and then creating something where they can fit in, is not lost on us.)

We are a brand that embraces who we are, whilst also ensuring that we do our part for our "broken" society. 15% of profits from our products is donated to charities that are actively combatting society's broken mentality. This includes the likes of Stonewall, Andy's Man Club, RECLAIM and Beyond Equality, whilst we are also committed to producing sustainable and environmentally friendly clothing.
